  14. support for Apple’s newly released System 7™ Pro by declaring pricing and a
  15. shipping schedule for their newest product, Useful Voice Processor™ for
  16. Macintosh®, AOCE® Edition.

  18. While retaining the recording, playback and transcription functionality
  19. provided in the base Voice Processor product, Useful Voice Processor for
  20. Macintosh, AOCE Edition adds full support for the electronic mail and digital
  21. signature functionality provided by the PowerTalk™ component of System 7 Pro.

  23. “System 7 Pro defines the corporate Macintosh environment,” commented Rick
  24. Genter, Useful Software’s President and Chief Technical Officer. “Voice
  25. Processor AOCE enables the corporate Macintosh user to collaborate on oral
  26. presentations or participate in virtual meetings.”

  28. Useful Voice Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition, incorporates AOCE’s
  29. standard mail package, allowing an electronic mail header to be attached to a
  30. standard Voice Processor recording and transcription. The mail package allows
  31. Voice Processor documents to be assigned multiple electronic destinations, and
  32. to even have other, unrelated documents enclosed within the message. “By
  33. sending a Voice Processor document through e-mail, I can conduct a virtual
  34. meeting, even though the other participants may be half a world away,” Genter
  35. said. “I can record my thoughts, enclose a chart or spreadsheet, then e-mail it
  36. to the others. When they receive it they can add their thoughts and enclosures,
  37. and so on, until we have exchanged our ideas, not only in our own words, but in
  38. our own voices.”

  40. Non-Voice Processor users can also receive Voice Processor e-mail as a standard
  41. AppleMail™ document. AppleMail users will be able to hear the recorded sound
  42. and read the transcription, but the sound will not be editable, and none of the
  43. navigation functionality of Voice Processor such as fast forward or rewind will
  44. be available.

  46. Of course, security is a concern in a network environment. Useful Voice
  47. Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition addresses that concern by including
  48. support for Apple’s DigiSign™ digital signature technology. Voice Processor
  49. documents can be signed, in whole or in part, by multiple signers. The
  50. recipient of a Voice Processor document can verify these signatures with a
  51. simple double-click. “When I receive a Voice Processor document from a
  52. colleague, I want to know that my colleague was the one who actually recorded
  53. it. With the digital signature support, I can verify that the recording hasn’t
  54. been altered in any way. This becomes even more important with the editing
  55. features being developed for the next release of Voice Processor.”

  57. A beta version of Useful Voice Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition, was
  58. demonstrated at the release event. The product runs on any Macintosh with a
  59. microphone running System 7 Pro. The program requires 1.5MB of RAM, and
  60. recording at maximum MACE compression requires 12MB of disk space per hour of
  61. speech.

  63. Useful Voice Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition, will ship January 1, 1994.
  64. The product will be priced normally at $259.95, with existing Voice Processor
  65. users able to upgrade for $99. Useful Software also announced a limited
  66. promotion through March 31, 1994, during which Voice Processor AOCE can be
  67. purchased for $199.95 and existing Voice Processor users can upgrade for $39.
  68. Voice Processor AOCE can also be purchased in multi-user ‘packs’, including a
  69. 5-user pack for $999 ($799 through March 31), a 10-user pack for $1799 ($1399
  70. through March 31), and a 25-user pack for $3999 ($2999 through March 31).
