- CUPERTINO, CA -- October 4, 1993 -- Useful Software Corporation today announced
- support for Apple’s newly released System 7™ Pro by declaring pricing and a
- shipping schedule for their newest product, Useful Voice Processor™ for
- Macintosh®, AOCE® Edition.
-
- While retaining the recording, playback and transcription functionality
- provided in the base Voice Processor product, Useful Voice Processor for
- Macintosh, AOCE Edition adds full support for the electronic mail and digital
- signature functionality provided by the PowerTalk™ component of System 7 Pro.
-
- “System 7 Pro defines the corporate Macintosh environment,” commented Rick
- Genter, Useful Software’s President and Chief Technical Officer. “Voice
- Processor AOCE enables the corporate Macintosh user to collaborate on oral
- presentations or participate in virtual meetings.”
-
- Useful Voice Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition, incorporates AOCE’s
- standard mail package, allowing an electronic mail header to be attached to a
- standard Voice Processor recording and transcription. The mail package allows
- Voice Processor documents to be assigned multiple electronic destinations, and
- to even have other, unrelated documents enclosed within the message. “By
- sending a Voice Processor document through e-mail, I can conduct a virtual
- meeting, even though the other participants may be half a world away,” Genter
- said. “I can record my thoughts, enclose a chart or spreadsheet, then e-mail it
- to the others. When they receive it they can add their thoughts and enclosures,
- and so on, until we have exchanged our ideas, not only in our own words, but in
- our own voices.”
-
- Non-Voice Processor users can also receive Voice Processor e-mail as a standard
- AppleMail™ document. AppleMail users will be able to hear the recorded sound
- and read the transcription, but the sound will not be editable, and none of the
- navigation functionality of Voice Processor such as fast forward or rewind will
- be available.
-
- Of course, security is a concern in a network environment. Useful Voice
- Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition addresses that concern by including
- support for Apple’s DigiSign™ digital signature technology. Voice Processor
- documents can be signed, in whole or in part, by multiple signers. The
- recipient of a Voice Processor document can verify these signatures with a
- simple double-click. “When I receive a Voice Processor document from a
- colleague, I want to know that my colleague was the one who actually recorded
- it. With the digital signature support, I can verify that the recording hasn’t
- been altered in any way. This becomes even more important with the editing
- features being developed for the next release of Voice Processor.”
-
- A beta version of Useful Voice Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition, was
- demonstrated at the release event. The product runs on any Macintosh with a
- microphone running System 7 Pro. The program requires 1.5MB of RAM, and
- recording at maximum MACE compression requires 12MB of disk space per hour of
- speech.
-
- Useful Voice Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition, will ship January 1, 1994.
- The product will be priced normally at $259.95, with existing Voice Processor
- users able to upgrade for $99. Useful Software also announced a limited
- promotion through March 31, 1994, during which Voice Processor AOCE can be
- purchased for $199.95 and existing Voice Processor users can upgrade for $39.
- Voice Processor AOCE can also be purchased in multi-user ‘packs’, including a
- 5-user pack for $999 ($799 through March 31), a 10-user pack for $1799 ($1399
- through March 31), and a 25-user pack for $3999 ($2999 through March 31).
- Useful Voice Processor for Macintosh, AOCE Edition is covered under Useful
- Software’s Useful Product Upgrade™ policy, which includes two free updates for
- each product purchased.
